The use of cabinets as statement pieces and important interior design contributions, rather than the simple kitchen wall storage they once were, has become a small trend.

With the cost of cabinets in this economy, running to Home Depot to purchase new cabinets every time you want to change up the kitchen (or even every 10 years!) is just not always feasible. While altering the look of your existing cabinets has been blazing with popularity, the focus tends to be on hardware and color only. But there are a couple of other, cost-friendly, DIY fixes that may revamp the entire space: creatively changing or even entirely removing cabinet doors.

Removing Cabinet Doors… Is that insane?

Changing or removing cabinet doors can be a great way to jazz up a space without breaking your back or the bank. You might be thinking, “Remove cabinet doors?! I do not desire to have someone see my plates and tupperware.” Yes, that can raise some initial, internal alarms. But then think… “The cabinet that houses flower vases above my fridge looks very pretty, and I would not necessarily mind if people saw that.”

The simplicity of removing the doors can give the kitchen an entirely modern space to display items, similar to a deep shelf. You could even show off some top-tier snack organization skills if you’d be so bold!

Just a Little Dab of Paint

The above may not have been a convincing enough argument for some to go removing doors on their cabinetry, but maybe some paint can do the trick. Paint can achieve change a bit more easily… a nice bridge to digesting some doorless cabinets.

We have talked about painting cabinets before, but this suggestion is slightly different. This could mean painting the door a different color than the cabinet or painting just aspects of the doors, such as the inner panel, the trim, etc. different colors. While it may sound eccentric, using some neutral schemes can be lowkey and calming and some bright colors can give your space a really fun vibe.

Bright and bold, or calm and lowkey these two painting ideas can be enough to revamp the entire space or at least freshen it up a little!

It’s not Permanent!

Flip a coin: remove your cabinet doors or do some creative painting! The best part of both of these ideas is that neither is permanent and neither breaks the bank! Have fun revamping your space on a budget!
