As with the weather, the cabinet trends are changing! Thinking of a remodel? Now is the time! You’ll be dying for a change after hearing about these fun and functional trends this season.
Dark Cabinets
This season we are coming out of the white era and plunging ourselves into the trending dark cabinet option. The dark color offers a romantic vibe, perfect for a timeless look. It offers a level of drama that can be enhanced with warm hues and rich colors or toned down with earth tones and natural wood accents. The dark cabinets stand out against any wall, counter, or backsplash and prove you can’t go wrong with this popular style!
Mismatched Cabinet Hardware
Many people have taken up this trend of making the upper cabinet hardware different from the bottom cabinets. This could be as drastic or as slight as you choose. The incredible versatility of this trend is what has gained its popularity. The most popular versions – and how it all started – are as follows: 1) maintaining the same knob / handle shape, but changing its metal color, or 2) maintaining the metal color, but changing the knob / handle shape. While it may seem strange or too inconspicuous of a difference, it offers a unique and modern vibe that many adore.
This trend takes it a step further when the metals and types of knobs/handles are mismatched as well. Some people go as far as to make each cabinet different. The amount of combinations of colors and styles has allowed people to be super creative in their kitchens in a way that is not permanent or damaging.
European-Style Cabinets
Shaker-style cabinets are by no means unpopular, but the increasing incorporation of European-style cabinets cannot go unnoticed. You may be curious as to what a European-style cabinet is. It is also referred to as a frameless cabinet. But if your brow’s still furrowed and you are about to start googling, let me stop you. Think of it as a doctor’s office cabinet or a kitchen at an office building. They are flat, clean, modern, and becoming very favored.
Mixing Styles
With the increase in European style, we are also seeing an increase in mixing different styles. Shaker, European, Scandinavian, and flat-panel are all creating beautiful cabinetry combos to explore. Gotta love more customizability, right?
Cream-Colored Cabinets
If dark cabinets are not your jam and the basic, super popular white trend isn’t unique enough, this cream trend is for YOU! With equal versatility, this cream color offers a richness that you lose in the white. The cream color is less sterile but still modern and unique.
Open Shelving
This trend is similar to the no-door trend that’s gaining some speed but with a little twist. Rather than just remove the doors of the upper or selective cabinets, you nix them entirely and replace them with shelves! Open shelves of glass jarred spices, serving dishes, dishes, and more. With the right display containers, this can be a very open and unique kitchen design. The majority of this style comes from farmhouses and homesteads, but is popping up everywhere! Don’t knock it ‘til ya try it!
Cabinet trends come and go, but one thing we know for sure is that nothing is permanent, and there are many ways to customize the kitchen you have or the kitchen you want! A color, a knob, or a missing door, what will you (or won’t you) be doing this season?
