When designing a kitchen in a smaller area, maximizing space is immediately at the forefront of plans. While standard cabinets are wonderful, they are not specifically tailored to use a smaller-than-average space as efficiently as they could be. And when working in smaller spaces, the assurance that the custom cabinetry can and will provide adequate storage without crowding the space is crucial. Following along with the tips below can help secure the kitchen of your dreams without the clutter of your nightmares.
Tall Cabinets
To increase space, consider tall cabinets. If your upper cabinets don’t touch the ceiling, extend them so that they do. By extending the upper cabinets to reach the ceiling, you can drastically change the storage capacity. The tall cabinet is a great place to store the infrequently used kitchen appliances or, perhaps, cumbersome items. Reserve the least-used things for the top shelves unless you want to keep your stool nearby. Or maybe it’s a good place to hide all of your vases! [Can we all admit that we never know where to put those?] Another BIG bonus to the extended vertical cabinets is the illusion of a bigger space!
Drawers
Another great addition to increase functionality is to add pull-out drawers. Adding stacked pull-out drawers to the narrow areas cannot only utilize the space, but it does so while also creating increased organization. This maximizes the areas that may have been lost to empty wall space or filler pieces without it. The drawers allow for easier access to your things.
Slim/Narrow Cabinets
Adding a slim, narrow cabinet to fill the dead spaces can be a game changer. This is typically utilized next to appliances, such as the stove or dishwasher, and can be super helpful when attempting to use all the available space. But what would you even put in such a narrow space? The best things to store here are cutting boards, cooking sheets, muffin tins, etc. It works out quite perfectly since I have yet to find a non-problematic place for those things. It is a clever, unique, and extremely usable addition to any space.
Custom cabinets are the best way to increase functionality, utilization, and storage space in a kitchen. When working in a small area, keeping storage and maximization of the space is crucial and a priority. Adding in tall cabinets, slim and arrow appliance cabinets, and pullout drawers can all help in creating the most efficient space in your home.
